2020 has finally come to a close, with San Luis Obispo High School students creating New Year’s resolutions. Student’s New Year’s resolutions vary from healthy eating to reading a book. Expressions set out to find some of these various resolutions among students.
A survey conducted by protectivemindfulness.com found that the top three New Year’s resolutions include weight loss, exercise, and quitting smoking. After the first week of January, 25 percent of people have deserted their resolutions.
“My New Year’s resolution is to focus on my mental and physical health instead of worrying more about others. I tend to focus on what other people need and their problems. When it comes to my own struggles sometimes it can be overwhelming. I want to work on becoming my best self all in all,” said junior Anessa Alvarado.
New Year’s resolutions don’t always have to be complex but can be as simple as only eating out once a week.
“I haven’t been reading as much as I’d like to, so my New Year’s resolution is to read more. I’m always on my phone before I go to sleep, which isn’t something I’d like to continue. Making healthy habits is important and what I’m aiming for,” said sophomore Gia Anselmo.
New Year’s resolutions have been around since the ancient Babylonians, about 4,000 years ago. The Babylonians made “New Year’s resolutions” to keep themselves in good favor with the gods
Do you have a New Year’s resolution that you plan to keep? You probably won’t.
