A new school year brings new teachers, and even though students won’t get to meet them in person, it doesn’t hurt to get to know them a little better. In this edition of New Teacher Interviews, Expressions talks to San Luis Obispo High School’s own Annie Downey!
Expressions: What do you teach and how long have you been teaching?
SLOHS Biology and Chemistry teacher Annie Downey: This is my first year teaching and my classes are Biology and Chemistry! I have been working at SLOHS for many years as a paraeducator and I coach Boys and Girls Volleyball.
Expressions: Where did you go to school and what did you get your degree(s) in?
Downey: I attended Long Beach State and the University of Phoenix studying Hospitality and Business Management.
Expressions: What are your favorite things to do outside of school?
Downey: I love to do projects with my family on our farm, coach/play volleyball, and cook!
Expressions: If you could teach another subject/concentration what would it be?
Downey: Aside from science, Math, English, and Physical Education would be super fun!
Expressions: If you could have any other job and money wasn’t a concern, what would you want to do?
Downey: My husband and I have always wanted to do a Farm to Food Truck as a side hustle!
