Few things in life stay as ingrained in your memory as, say, getting a dog, seeing your favorite band perform, or sharing a special moment with friends or family. One of these few things is “The Crumble Song” by Lorraine Bowen. This “Britain’s Got Talent” audition song has touched many at San Luis Obispo High School.
To find out why so many students have become infatuated with “The Crumble Song”, Expressions set out to interview students whose lives have been deeply touched by Bowen’s classic tune.
“I thought it was interesting. I think it was very worthy of the golden buzzer. Honestly, I think the other judges were a bit cruel [to Lorraine],” said junior Jack Walter.
One of the things that makes Bowen’s tune so universal is the topic. Crumble is a dessert loved by many, and very versatile in its fillings, making it accessible to virtually anyone in the world.
“My first reaction was just thinking, ‘Wow. This is truly a work of art.’ I felt blessed,” said junior Courtney Bloomstine.
The way Bowen first compliments everyone in the world before beginning to focus on her main topic is particularly noteworthy. Her lyrics insightly state, “Everybody’s good at cooking something/ I’m good at cooking crumble.” She then follows by generously offering the listener some of the crumble by saying, “In fact I’ve got one in the oven / Would you like some?”
Thought the magic of Bowen is felt by many, some such as American Sign Language teacher Kristen Nusbaum didn’t really get it.
“Let’s just say this: I didn’t last a minute,” said Nusbaum.
Whether or not the magic of “The Crumble Song” is felt by all, there is no doubt that Bowen’s musical masterpiece will go down in history as the most deserving golden buzzer in “Britain’s Got Talent” history.
