Most students at San Luis Obispo High School have two trimesters of either Physical Education classes or a sport, but are there any other options?
Some SLOHS students participate in dancing after school at studios such as Studio @-Ryan’s American Dance, Academy of Dance, San Luis Obispo, and Ballet Theatre San Luis Obispo.
Dance, depending on what style, requires a lot of work that ranges from muscle build-up to constant rehearsal.
“I think people tend to underestimate dance. It is certainly an art, but sometimes it even resembles a contact sport,” said sophomore and dancer Evelyn Harding.
So with all the strenuous work that goes into dancing shouldn’t SLOHS not only offer a dance class for students and dancers but have the class count for credit?
Paso Robles High School has already beat SLOHS to the chase. At PRHS, students have the choice between a P.E. class and dance class.
“I think it would be really cool to have a dance class here at SLOHS for people who are interested in learning how to dance without a giant price tag, or for people who are already dancers but don’t have an option for P.E.,” said sophomore Kathryn van Lingen.
Hopefully, with all the changes happening on campus, the administration will take this suggestion so that the SLOHS campus can be a little more lively!
