At San Luis Obispo High School, we have many students that have a good sense of style and are very informed about upcoming trends. Expressions interviewed senior Miguel Ajanel about his opinion on the trends of this summer and asked him to tell us some of his summer must-haves.
Expressions: What trends are coming this summer?
Senior Miguel Ajanel: Thin horizontal stripes are getting popular.
Expressions: What trends do you not like at all?
Ajanel: I wouldn’t say that there are any trends that I dislike. I think that what people choose to wear is a very personal decision and I don’t want to judge anyone for what they’re wearing.
Expressions: What jewelry is popular?
Ajanel: Some people like to wear a lot of ice and really big watches. People want flashy stuff: watches, rings.
Expressions: What is your go-to outfit for the summer?
Ajanel: A good pair of shorts because I like to cycle around, and a nice flowy [senior] Noah Nelson style shirt, and of course sunglasses.
Expressions: How has your style changed from summer 2017 to summer 2018?
Ajanel: I would say that I got more colorful and I’m wearing more texture.
Expressions: What clothing piece of yours represents summer to you?
Ajanel: Definitely my favorite pair of shorts that I always cycle around in.
Expressions: Who is your style icon? Why?
Ajanel: My style is very based on color schemes. And since I know a little bit of color theory, it’s easy to just grab clothes. I think my “style icons” are jazz singers, not necessarily what they are wearing, but I like it because jazz is a method, not just music.
