San Luis Obispo High School has several end of the year traditions. There’s senior pranks, the senior picnic, yearbook signings, and the senior showcase. The senior showcase is this Thursday, June 9, at 6 p.m. It is held at the Cal Poly Performing Arts Center. Entry is free except for a small parking fee.
“I thought it would be fun to play for a load of my peers,” said senior Thomas Green. He will be performing an excerpt from Holst’s the planets with a brass quartet. There will be lots of different talents on display at the showcase.
The showcase serves as a place for students who received scholarships to be recognized, while also a place for seniors to show off their talents during the performance portion. It’s a memorable end of the year activity, both for the seniors who participate as well as the Tigers and Tiger parents who come to watch.
“Participating in senior showcase to me is like giving a last farewell to high school,” said senior Kyra Lauritzen. She will be singing and playing, on the piano, an original song called “Better Day”, and also doing a duet cover of “Bird On The Wire” with senior Emma Jane Haas.
“Music is a huge part of my life. I don’t perform often but this seemed like the perfect occasion to put myself out there,” said Lauritzen. Lot of seniors will be displaying talents they don’t often share, which is what makes the event so memorable. Be sure to come to the showcase on Thursday for a great show.
