As we head into the final weeks of September, San Luis Obispo suddenly becomes extremely crowded and packed with people. The lines going out the door at restaurants and coffee shops should be expected starting this week, as the California Polytechnic State University students return for week of welcome, “WOW”.
“Be kind and generous to the new freshman on the Cal Poly campus as they navigate the city, and become more accustomed to San Luis Obispo life, or so called life in a bubble,” said junior Noah Cracknell.
I’ve enjoyed not having all of the Cal Poly students in all of the boutiques and restaurants. But just as every previous year, the students come back and create lines. Simply put, it’s annoying.
The irony is that SLOHS students know more about our city then the older Cal Poly students. We know to go to Outspoken for smoothies and Franks for breakfast burritos, while they are still learning which street Higuera is and which day the farmers market is on.
They might add some time to your morning coffee stop, but they also might also be the next genius who helps us go to Mars or creates plants to end world hunger; who knows, they could even become one of your best friends.
