Info On The Mozaic Music Festival

San Luis Obispo is having its annual Mozaic Music Festival this summer, July 13-24. To kick off the festival, there will be a gourmet dinner with violinist Sandy Yamamoto performing at the home of Brigitte and Bruce Falkenhagen on July 13 at 6:00 pm. The following day there will be a Fringe Series: Intersection at Cuesta College at 7:30 pm. Performers include pianist John Novacek, cellist Kristina Reiko Cooper, and violinist Laura Frautschi. Next, there will be the Chamber Series: Legacy of Genius at Cuesta College on July 15 where works of Mahler, Britten, Mozart, and Schoenberg will be performed at 7:30 pm.

On July 16, there will be a Free Midday Mini-Concert: Mozart by the Sea at Santa Rosa Catholic Church, Cambria at 12:00 pm where Mozarts Viola Quintet in E-flat major will be played by Grace Park, Serena McKinney, Ben Ullery, Luke Fleming, and Madeleine Kabat. In the evening, there will be an Orchestra Series: Baroque in the Vines at Chapel Sierra. Chapel Hill, the setting of the event is built from historical artifacts from the William Randolph Hearst Collection. The venue will be open at 6:00 pm and the concert will begin at 7:30 pm when works of Handel, Torelli, and Bach will be performed. There will be many more riveting performances with

Expressions talked to San Luis Obispo High School Senior Sidney Leonard, an avid Classical Music fanatic about the festival. Leonard expressed not only that she was looking forward to the performances, but why she loves classical music as a genre. Leonard stated that she “like[s] the refinement and dramaticism of it and that some modern music lacks a certain intellectualism that is very present in classical music. There is a lot of thought about symbolism and it is universally pleasant.”
