The color run is a fun filled event in honor of the memory of San Luis Obispo High School student Alex Maier who died in a car accident in 2013. His younger sister, junior Leah Maier, says that the part she enjoys most about the color run is, “the run is something fun the whole school can participate in for honoring my brother’s memory.” The color run this year was originally planned in January but was postponed due to the extreme conditions of the rain from El Niño.
The run has been moved to the date of April 23. The run consists of 3 laps around the high school and adult school with different color stations. Throughout the run, runners get different colors thrown on them. At the end of the run, everyone is given a color packet and a countdown is given to when everyone is supposed to throw it in the air.
“It is really really fun and for a really good cause,” said junior Anna Walden.
The money earned at the color run goes towards the Alex Maier Memorial Fund and Scholarships to provides funds for graduating SLOHS seniors as they enter college.
