Though we often hear news of the San Luis Obispo High School baseball team, we seem to neglect the force that is the SLOHS softball team. Since their season started at the end of February, the girls of softball have been preparing to dominate. They have 2 wins, 1 loss, and one tie.
“We have a double-header today against Nipomo,” said senior Janae Caldera. “Last year we had a close loss, and we’re seeking revenge,” she added.
Last week, on Thursday, they went into ten innings against Templeton when the opposing coach called the game a tie. Coach Dan Monroe and the team were frustrated with this, because they were seeking a win. Monroe is on his second year coaching softball. Teammates say that he has adjusted well, but they still rag on him for calling softballs baseballs and hitting the players when he tries to pitch.
“I’m a part of a wonderful team that continues to grow stronger and stronger every day. We have been really pushing to make every practice count, and I can already tell this year will be very memorable. My experience at second base has been great and it’s been quite a change from playing center field, but I’m up for a challenge,” said senior Hanna Murphy.
