The GOAT (Greatest of All Time) debate is over at San Luis Obispo High school. After years of lunch time arguments and locker room debates, the argument between who is the greatest basketball player of all time has been settled.
By me.
Lebron James is the greatest basketball player of all time.
“I think Lebron is the GOAT, because of his longevity, athleticism, and ability to win,” said junior Johnathan Weyel.
The debate doesn’t end there, however. Many still argue in favor of Michael Jordan being the greatest player of all time. Junior basketball player Oscar Fenton argued, “Michael Jordan is the GOAT because he dominated his era to a level no other player has, he ran the 90s, and won six championships in 10 years.”
While it is hard to ignore Jordan’s dominance in the 1990s, his six championships, five MVP awards, ten scoring titles, and his reputation as a fierce competitor who never lost in the finals. His ability to step up in the biggest moments is what cemented him as an all time great.
But when you look at the full picture, Lebron James’ case as the GOAT is undeniable. Over 21 years (and counting) career, Lebron has averaged over 27 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists per game, unfathomable numbers for such longevity. Adding on to that he’shes the NBA all time leading scorer, a 4 time NBA champion, 4 time MVP, and has led three different franchises to win a championship, something Jordan never did.
Lebron’s rain of dominance across eras, his longevity, and his ability to lead whatever team he is on showcases his GOAT traits.
Tying it all together, the goat debate will always be opinion based. But if greatness is measured by all around impact then Lebron James is your clear answer to the question “Who is the greatest basketball player of all time?”
