SLOHS students can’t wait for the highly anticipated “Minecraft” Movie! Photo courtesy of sophomore George Ross.
The “Minecraft” movie officially released in theaters on April 3, 2025, and many San Luis Obispo High School students have already watched it. Many went as a joke, thinking the movie would be corny and a disgrace to the game many know and love.
However, the movie turned out to be better than expected for most. Students fell in love with the hilarious one-liners throughout the movie, as well as Jack Black’s commitment to his role of Steve. Also, the community that showed support for this film was nothing short of amazing.
“I haven’t had a theater experience like that since ‘Avengers: End Game in 2019’,” said junior Austin Sass.
The cinema downtown was fully booked for nearly every showing over the past weekend. This trend was echoed throughout the nation, and many students are talking about the over-the-top crowd reactions.
“I’ve seen videos of crowds erupting when Steve says ‘Chicken Jockey’ and I have never really seen anything like that in a theater before,” said sophomore Blake Schafer.
The crowd reactions to this movie were phenomenal. Standing ovations, reciting movie quotes, and even throwing popcorn during the movie were all common occurrences in the theater.
Although the producers of this film may not have anticipated this reaction to their work, they can’t complain as the movie is doing amazing numbers. The movie has raked in over 300 million dollars in sales, offsetting the production costs of 150 million.
However, many fans of the game “Minecraft” were slightly disappointed with how the movie represented the playing experience.
“It wasn’t as accurate to the game as I would have hoped it would be,” said sophomore Bearacb Plemons.
All in all the “Minecraft” movie was a huge success. Although not 100 percent accurate to the game, students had a great time watching the film with their friends.
“It wasn’t an Oscar-winning film or anything, but it was a great time,” said Sass.
So, Tigers, if you are looking for a great afternoon activity with your pals, check out the “Minecraft” movie! You won’t regret the watch.
