Trump’s history of chaotic behavior is truly showing light with his expression to acquire not only Greenland but also Gaza. Photo collage courtesy of senior Chase Philips.
As students at San Luis Obispo High School are still cooling down from the fright that the TikTok ban created, President Donald Trump is continuing to make headlines. From his inauguration speeches to his allowance to let Elon Musk give a sieg heil gesture on live television, Trump has continued to make big strides towards what he calls the new golden age of America.
In recent news, Trump has been bringing back his thirst for controlling Greenland which started in 2019. He believes that their population of 57 thousand citizens of Denmark, “want to be with us,” when asked by reporters about his thoughts on Greenland at Air Force One. He is determined to take Greenland under America’s wing, saying “I think we’re going to have it.”
“I think having greenland could be good because of the resources [and] having those resources will increase jobs and the economy,” said freshman Barret Self.
Trump largely expresses his interest in Greenland as a huge benefit for the United States with a strategic point for defense and mining for critical resources such as iron and uranium. Although the Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and her citizens have said many times that Greenland is “not for sale.”
“Ignoring their wishes and pursuing such an acquisition would be seen as an affront to their sovereignty and autonomy. It would undermine the principles of international law and mutual respect among nations,” said sophomore Ethan Hibble.
Frederiksen even reasserted her position on the matter and mess that Trump is creating in a heated 45 minute phone call with Trump that an anonymous European official had described as “horrendous,” and said that Trump’s consistent obsession of Greenland is “serious, and potentially dangerous.”
“It’s essential to recognize and honor the voices of the Greenlandic people, who have made it clear that they wish to remain autonomous and continue their path of self-governance. Any actions contrary to their expressed desires would not only strain diplomatic relations but also challenge the moral fabric of international cooperation and respect,” said sophomore Ethan Hibble.
As Trump continues to reign supreme and try to acquire not only Greenland but also Gaza and even Panama Canal, what more will he possibly do and why is he becoming so imperial and dictator-like?
Trump just seems to be doing whatever he can with his mass amounts of support of the American people before someone with a higher authority in the world stops him, so how can he be stopped sooner than later? The answer to that question lies in the hands of US citizens, what will the Tigers do?
