It’s gratitude week at San Luis Obispo High School, a week dedicated to practicing the act of being grateful.
During gratitude week students expressed their gratitude in many different ways. Activities consisted of thankful paper chains, a photo booth, and raffles! With Thanksgiving and Christmas break right around the corner, taking a minute to slow down and focus on what you’re grateful for was refreshing.
“My favorite activity during Gratitude week was the teacher gratitude event because I don’t think that teachers get enough appreciation. Students write a note to a teacher that they were grateful for. I also really liked the custodial appreciation one where every student wrote a note to our custodial staff. I believe that they will really appreciate that,” said senior and ASB member Lana Goodman.
During gratitude week, students had the opportunity to write kind notes and letters to teachers and our custodians on campus. These activities helped students realize the small things they may be grateful for, such as the teachers and peers they interact with every day.
“When I was walking into school today, I saw Grati-dude with his wig and all his glory. He was smiling at everyone and playing silly music. He made me feel the gratitude and smile,” said senior Emerson Oetman.
A familiar face on campus, Social Emotional Learning support counselor Austin Miller, has shape-shifted into the man, the myth, the legend: Grati-dude! Grati-dude’s mission on SLOHS’ campus is to spread love and bring joy into your day. Well, he did just that!
“Keep on the lookout for our next theme week coming in February! The theme will be revealed to students very dramatically before the week of the Winter Formal,” said Goodman.
Lately many students at SLOHS have been feeling the anxiety whether it be the post-finals stress, winter sport tryouts, or cramming in late assignments before Thanksgiving break.
Let’s just say us Tigers are full of gratitude for gratitude week!
