San Luis Obispo High School students, why is American ska punk band Sublime very influential to many ages and why will it still be influential 100 years from now?
For me, Sublime has always been a band that I remember hearing since my childhood. It’s completely nuts to see different age audiences like what, say people three years younger than you, who weren’t even part of your generation.
Many people say they like Sublime, but do they know the true story about the band? Do they even know who American musician Bradley Nowell is?
“I really enjoy Sublime. It’s a well-known band, which some people dislike, but the history behind it is really meaningful and listening to Sublime is one of my favorite things,” said junior Karl Karsh.
If you go up to someone younger than you and ask them if they like Sublime, they will reply with yes. However, if you ask them who the lead singer is, they usually don’t know.
Dude, it’s Bradley Nowell!
If anything, if you’re really going to start listening to Sublime, at least take the consideration to know who Nowell is or at least know who Nowell’s dog, Lou Dog, is.
If you’ve ever sat down and chilled on your back yard porch, gone on your daily cosmic walk, came back from surfing some sick waves, or just even sat on the back of a car gazing out at the sky, listening to Sublime any time of the day is just elite.
Everytime I pass by Long Beach, I play “April 29th, 1992” or “Garden Grove.”
“I saw Sublime at Sweet Springs Saloon in the early 90s, just before Bradley died. My buddy’s band opened for them, and it was on my birthday. Mostly covers were played, but their stage presence was memorable,” said English teacher Scott Nairne.
If you ever ask me to sing you “Greatest Hits” by Sublime, I will sing the whole thing without messing up any of the lyrics.
Try me.
What really started out as a local band of punks from Long Beach, California, turned out to be the most influential band ever. Sublime is the best and if you don’t know their history or music, you should give Sublime a listen.
