Jaclyn Maddalena is a senior at San Luis Obispo High school. She is also a volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters, an after school program where younger kids get to hang out and bond with older teens. Expressions asked her some questions to better get to know this young woman.
Expressions: So how long have you been a part of Big Brothers Big Sisters?
Senior Jaclyn Maddalena: This is my first year, and I really like it so far.
Expressions: Do you have a Little Brother or Little Sister?
Maddalena: I have a Little Sister; her name’s Natalia. She is really cute and fun to hang out with, and it feels really good to be her role model, especially because she said she doesn’t really have anyone.
Expressions: How did you find out about the program?
Maddalena: I found out about it through the career center when I asked about volunteering. And it worked out because I really like to babysit, and I really like kids.
Expressions: What else do you do outside of school?
Maddalena: I like to make jewelry and sell it at my mom’s store. And recently I’ve done a fundraiser for Jack’s Helping Hand, where I raised a thousand dollars.
Expressions: What is Jack’s Helping Hand?
Maddalena: It’s a charity for disabled kids. Like a place for them to hang out, and the money I raised was spent on new toys for them on the playground area.
