San Luis Obispo High School junior Tia Gin has had a strong passion for gymnastics for the past ten years. Competing with Performance Athletics Gymnastics, Gin has excelled throughout her years as a gymnast. Now, at 16 years old, Gin is the very first gymnast on the Central Coast to be selected for the Women’s Junior Olympic National Championships which will be held in Indianapolis this month. Gin was selected to participate at the National Championships in April at Regional Championships.
“Regionals is probably one of the hardest meets because you are competing for a spot on Region 1’s team. Once you make it to Nationals, it is easy because you don’t have to qualify for anything else. I had my best meet at Regionals which is good because that’s when you want to peak,” said Gin.
She also shared that it wasn’t easy to accomplish this.
“It’s hard keeping up with school and gymnastics at the same time. My teammates always keep me motivated, also I want to compete in gymnastics at the collegiate level,” said Gin.
“There are a few colleges interested in me right now, but hopefully after Nationals I will be noticed by more schools. I plan to know where I want to go by the end of summer,” said Gin.
