The FIFA World Cup is a football (soccer) event that happens once every four years. Countries qualify by ranking up wins against each other.

This is a chance to represent your country by wearing your team gear. At San Luis Obispo  High School, many people supported their teams. Most notable are Mexico, the United States, and Brazil.

Not only is the World Cup enjoyable because you can support your country, but you can also support your favorite player.

“It is a special soccer tournament that comes around every 4 years. It is a special place for me because I like to support my national team,” said junior Jose Hernandez.

The experience is at its height  when your country is going head to head with another country for the win. It is a one-of-a-kind experience.

Many teachers at SLOHS also showed their support by playing the games for the whole class to see.

“I think it is a positive thing that teachers are doing because they know some students are actually into the sport and are actually watching the game to support their team,” said sophomore Alex Ochoa.

It is just a beautiful sight to see that the sport of soccer has come so far from when the World Cup originated in 1930 to now.

If you have not felt the exhilaration of seeing your team fighting for the cup just invest some time into it. You will not regret a single thing! Watch the game this Sunday at 7 a.m. on Fox Sports.
