The halls of San Luis Obispo High School have been seeing an increase in cute and corny couples since the holiday season began. This increase could be due to a popular social construct that our generation likes to call “Cuffing Season”.
The term “Cuffing Season” refers to a period of time when single people begin looking for short-term partnerships to pass the colder months of the year. Cuffing season usually begins in October and lasts until just after Valentine’s Day. Expressions was curious to know if students at SLOHS think cuffing season is merely a coincidence or if they think the holiday spirit really affects people wanting to get into relationships.
“I definitely think that getting lonely during the holidays is a big thing because the way our society portrays holiday movies is very sweet, the guy asks out the girl over the holiday season and they go on cute hot chocolate dates and spend Christmas together. Even in a relationship, I get lonely!” said junior Karl Karsh.
“I think it’s the holiday spirit and that’s just how the holidays work,” said senior Aiden Spurlock.
Looking for a short-term partner isn’t always a bad thing, maybe you want someone to cuddle and watch horror movies with or someone to help you bake Christmas cookies, or even someone to ring in the new year with. Whether you’re just looking for someone to survive the holidays with or a possible long-term partner, cuffing season is a fun time to begin a relationship. However, there is no pressure to find someone if you enjoy being single, you do you Tigers!
