Snow sports are approaching quickly for San Luis Obispo High School students, and despite not having good snow spots in SLO, there are multiple ski resorts and mountains only a few hours away.
SLOHS’s very own Snowboarding and Ski Club are preparing for their trip to China Peak, a popular snow spot in Central California that’s about four hours away.
Mountain resort China Peak is currently wide open after last weekend’s 7 inches of fresh powder. This is the closest resort to SLO.
“Usually when I go skiing I like to go to China Peak. Sometimes I go to Mount Rose and Lake Tahoe which are the closest and easiest,” said sophomore Nolan Connely.
Snowboarding is a lot like surfing and skateboarding just with different mechanics. Even though sliding down icy mountains can seem terrifying, it can be a healthy and entertaining pastime to do with friends and family.
“Last year I went snowboarding over break with English teacher Brian Moss and my oldest kid. This break I’m not quite sure if I’m going because you’ve got to wait for the condition to be good,” said English teacher and newspaper adviser Scott Nairne.
Regardless of one’s skill level, whether they’re a complete beginner to a winter sports expert, there is a location for every level of snow sports.
Don’t miss this opportunity to go snowboarding or skiing, try to get snow before it’s too late Tigers!
