Fall Movie Lineup

Fall+Movie+Lineup

I hate to say it, but the summer movie season is officially over. Throughout the sun-filled months, we got our fair share of action packed blockbusters, including films such as “Jurassic World”, “Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation”, and many others. Cinephiles, don’t be alarmed! The departure of the weekly popcorn flick makes room for the fall movie slate. As some might know, fall is commonly referred to as “Oscar movie season”. If you’re planning on making a trip to the local cinema anytime within the next few months, look out for these six films.

First up on my list is “Goodnight Mommy”. A dramatic horror flick that has the “scariest trailer of all time,” It follows the story of nine year old twin brothers who are waiting for their mom to return from cosmetic surgery. When she arrives home, however, something seems off. The children start to question the mother’s true identity, which sparks a struggle for trust and complete safety. “Goodnight Mommy” hits theaters on September 11.

On September 18, Johnny Depp stars in “Black Mass”, a gangster movie set in the 1970’s. Many agree that Depp has been on somewhat of a dry spell regarding his last few films, but this one will likely change it up. From the look of the trailers, Depp has a serious shot to be nominated for an Oscar once again.

When asked about what upcoming films he is looking forward to, junior Jesus Ramirez said “I like Matt Damon, so I’d say ‘The Martian”. After being presumed dead on a trip to Mars with limited supplies, Mark Watney must signal to Earth that he hasn’t died, while surviving Mars’ unknown land. During Watney’s struggle for survival, NASA plots a daring rescue mission to bring “The Martian” home. October 2 is the release date for this space epic.

Released on the same day as “The Martian,” “Legend” starring Tom Hardy hits theaters. A crime thriller taking us into the unknown history of the 1960’s, Hardy plays two different roles in this film. From what i’ve heard in the world of film journalism, Hardy is absolutely incredible and will most definitely get nominated for an Oscar, if not win.

Second to last on my list is “Steve Jobs,” the biopic about the iconic Apple co-creator. Starring the always amazing Michael Fassbender as the man himself and Seth Rogen as Steve Wozniak, this is looking to be the proper Jobs movie, after the disgrace that was last year’s poorly made “Jobs” starring Ashton Kutcher. If you’re a fan of Apple products, this is a must see. “Steve Jobs” hits theaters on October 9.

Rounding out the Fall movie slate is Steven Spielberg’s new project, “Bridge of Spies”. Lead by Academy Award Winning actor Tom Hanks as the American attorney asked to negotiate the release of a U-2 pilot shot down over Russia at the height of the cold war, “Bridge of Spies” is shaping up to be a fantastic film for not only American History buffs, but also fans of the spy genre. Hanks looks to give an excellent performance as always, and the cinematography looks amazing. October 16 is the release date.
