At San Luis Obispo High School, a majority of the students listen to podcasts. These can be different kinds of podcasts, such as true crime, informational, DnD, etc. A popular genre among teens is comedy.

“Outspoken”, a podcast hosted by youtuber Sam Collins, is a commentary podcast that revolves around comedy. In a recent episode, Collins has youtuber Samantha Lux on the show to do an episode together. They decided to do an episode on PragerU, an American non-profit University. Though some people believe that the videos PragerU makes contain factual information, all of the claims that they make don’t have any evidence.

In this episode of “Outspoken”, Collins and Lux talk about a recent video PragerU has made. PragerU talked about how in a short kids film, there was a masucline-presenting muppet in a dress. They say that this isn’t age appropriate and it sexualizes children. Collins says that their statement is ridiculous and questions why a muppet wearing a dress wouldn’t be age appropriate.

PragerU also says that when schools talk to kids about gender nonconformity, it’s “taking away rights of parents.” They talk about how when councilors give kids hotline numbers, such as “The Trevor Project,” it goes behind parents’ backs.

“How dare you inform my child! You can’t make my kid feel happy, they need to hate themselves!” says Lux, jokingly mocking PragerU.

The podcast is filled with great commentary, comedy, and information about LGBTQ+ topics. This episode in particular was an extraordinary mix between informative and funny. There were never lulls in the conversation and it was very entertaining to listen to Collins and Lux talk.

If students find lighthearted commentary funny, then “Outspoken” is for them. Whether it’s talking about how factually incorrect PragerU is or not, the podcast is a great pastime.
