  Tiger News Network (TNN) is a lot different this year. Filming from their homes, San Luis Obispo High School student producers in the class have to work together to create a bulletin to share across the school. 

  This exciting new way of working may not appeal to many students, but is actually a great way to build upon public speaking, teambuilding, and graphic design skills. 

   TNN is looking for students interested in graphic design, film production, and/or journalism to join the TNN team.

 “One of the biggest misconceptions about TNN, I’ve found, is that getting involved means you HAVE to be in front of the camera –– this is absolutely not true,” said senior and TNN producer Ian McKay. “Most of my work as a reporter has been creating cool graphics and images for announcements, interviewing students and staff, and collecting pictures and videos from on- and off-campus activities.”

  “It was just a cool hands-on experience in graphic and video production,” said sophomore Zoey Nielsen. “This class helped improve my graphic design skills because I had access to tools at all times that allowed me to practice, and I feel like my ability to tell a story in my interview segments improved because I had to weave the clips together and include snippets of my own commentary to make it flow.”

  “Taking the class has greatly helped me with fine tuning my graphics or videos, as well as helping me improve my ability to work and coordinate with others at a distance,” said sophomore Matthias Bigler.

  For sophomore Ellie Pearson, the small class has made her feel more comfortable in the work environment. “This semester’s class is smaller than usual so I feel like we have been able to work together more than if we were in person, and I feel more comfortable sharing my work,” said Pearson. “This group has pushed me to develop better journalism and software skills while also giving a taste at what producing a show is like.”

  “If you’re into graphic design, photography, filmmaking, or any medium of that sort, this is the place for you,” said McKay.
