San Luis Obispo High school has let their football team come back to practice. What are they doing to stay safe during COVID-19?

“Prior to attending practice, you and your parent/guardian are responsible for a self-assessment. If you have any of the following symptoms: Fever, Cough, Sore Throat, Shortness of Breath, or have been in close contact with someone with COVID 19, you are NOT to attend practice and should see your doctor,” said the school website guidelines.

We wanted to know more.

Expressions went to SLOHS Athletic director Marci Beddall with some questions about the return of our pride sport.

Expressions: Are the mask rules as strict as the website sets them out to be or as the practice goes on do the masks start to come off?

Athletic Director Marci Beddall: Masks must stay on as soon as athletes get out of their car, through check-in, and until they engage in strenuous activity. Per the county and state guidelines, all athletes are able to take their masks off once they begin exerting themselves.

Expressions: During Practice do the football players stay socially distanced even though this is a high contact sport?

Beddall: Yes all athletes in each sport must remain six feet apart at all times.

Expressions:  Are there rules that the players have to follow outside of practice? *ex. no travel, no contact other than teammates, etc.

Beddall: No, there are no rules mandating behavior off-campus.
