Every year at San Luis Obispo High School the senior class forms a mass group-chat to stay up to date on events happening throughout the year. While it may seem like a good idea to have a convenient way to communicate with each other, the senior group-chat is undeniably flawed. Between bullying and excluding fellow classmates, the senior group-chat should not be endorsed.

  “I tried my best to give ideas and be nice in the senior group-chat but I just got shut down by bullies. It brought out the immaturity in our class,” said graduate Zoey Nitzel.

  Being bullied online in the same fashion as we fought with each other in middle school is not the ideal image of senior class. After years of being in school together wouldn’t you want to feel the support and sense of comradery in your graduating class? Nitzel was not the only 2019 senior who felt this way.

  “I got kicked out of the group-chat because I identified the immaturity and tried to change something about it. The people who run the groupchat think they can exclude people just because they don’t like them,” said graduate Cassidy Olson.

  Simply stated, if the group-chat made specifically for seniors doesn’t include everyone, there’s no point in having it.

  Seniors will all be all the same page with upcoming events if they follow the bulletin and ASB. For the sake of graduating without any bad blood, the senior group-chat idea at SLOHS should end with the Class of the 2019.
