SLOHS Students’ College Sports Opportunities

SLOHS+Students+College+Sports+Opportunities

Wednesday, November 14 was a day of big commitments for several San Luis Obispo High School athletes. These athletes were all given the opportunity to sign their Letters of Intent for the colleges they had been recruited by for their certain sport. Letters of Intent are sent to prospective student-athletes once they have verbally committed to compete in a sport for that school. Signing the letter solidifies the athlete’s dedication to being a collegiate athlete at the Division one or two level. Seniors Molly Eppright, Maddie Johnson, Olivia Ortiz, and Molly Massman were among those who got to sign their letters on this exciting day.

Expressions: What school and sport are you signing for?

Senior Molly Eppright: I signed to go to Fresno State for volleyball.

Senior Maddie Johnson: Humboldt State University to play soccer.

Senior Olivia Ortiz: I am signing with Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo to play soccer there.

Senior Molly Massman: I am signing with the University of Montana to play soccer.

Expressions: Were there any factors that helped you make your decision to attend this school?

Johnson: I fell in love with the beautiful location and the strong family-like environment with the team.

Ortiz: Honestly, I didn’t want to stay in SLO for school until recently. Hearing what current students had to say about the school helped convince me. The team is so nice and they’re always gushing about how much they love it.

Massman: When deciding on this school meeting all the coaching staff and getting to interact with the team really helped because they were all so welcoming and excited.

Expressions: Do you know what you are majoring in?

Johnson: I plan on majoring in either kinesiology or criminology.

Eppright: I do not know what I’m majoring in so I went undeclared.

Massman: Health and Human performance to become an athletic trainer or physician’s assistant.

Expressions: What are you most excited about for your freshman year?

Eppright: I’m very excited about finally starting my journey as a collegiate athlete and meeting new people.

Ortiz: I am most excited to live on my own and become close with my teammates and new people too.

Massman: I am super excited for getting to live in the dorms with a majority of my teammates and making new friends.

Johnson: Probably the fact that I’m starting my journey as a collegiate athlete and meeting all kinds of new people.
