Apple Season is Here!

Apple+Season+is+here%21

San Luis Obispo High School students and faculty have been enjoying all summer break has to offer for a month and a half now, and the deal is about to get even sweeter—literally: Apple season has officially begun.

Along with longer days and warmer weather, summer brings a wide array of in-season, delicious, juicy fruit offerings. Most people know that stone fruits, meaning fruits such as apricots and peaches with flesh enveloping a central stone pit, as well as many berries reach the peak of freshness and flavor during the summertime. However, it is less common knowledge that many varieties of apple come into season beginning in July.

On the Central Coast, we are lucky to live near See Canyon, a magical pocket of land in between Avila and San Luis Obispo that boasts the ideal climate for growing extremely delicious apples. It is here that you will find Gopher Glen Organic Apple Farm, which has just opened for the season and will remain open until late November. Summer hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. You can find the fruit stand at 2899 See Canyon Road.

“Gopher Glen has a plethora of apple varieties that can satisfy every palate from sweet to tart. Their magical atmosphere and unique opportunity to participate in apple tasting keep customers returning for more season after season,” said 2018 graduate Connie Moore.

Take a journey out to See Canyon for some of the crispiest, juiciest, most flavorful apples available. It’s a magical experience, fifteen times better than grocery store apples. There are dozens of varieties and an amazing depth of flavor available.
