Why the stupid 80’s craze?

Why the stupid 80s craze?

A lot of students and clubs at San luis Obispo High School have fallen for a ‘false nostalgia’ complex. What I mean by ‘false nostalgia’ is the idea that a 14-18 year-old remembers the glamourous 1980s. So, why the stupid 1980s craze? C’mon. This makes no sense. This trend really only started with the 2016 release of the Netflix show “Stranger Things”. This very popular show takes place in the early 1980s and it quickly gained popularity due to its nostalgic properties for its older audiences and overall good quality.

“Every generation that tries to say they are from another generation is full of B.S. The only good thing to come out of the 80’s was that Michael Jackson was black and Val Kilmer was still a good actor” said SLOHS 2018 graduate Nabeel El-Sayed.

After “Stranger Things” blew up in following, a pattern in pop culture began to emerge. Everything was themed after the 1980s. Shirts that said “I LOVE THE EIGHTIES” in “Stranger Things” font started to arise. Even our own SLOHS Film Production Club made a 1980s themed short film. This doesn’t hinder the quality of the show, but you can easily distinguish “Stranger Things” influence. It’s indisputable. So many kids in middle and high school say things like

“Man the 80’s are so nostalgic for me!” and “I wish I lived in the 80s. I was born in the wrong generation!” These are real conversations I have heard here at SLOHS. This is an example of the aforementioned complex. This seriously needs to stop. You do not remember the 1980s, so don’t act like it.
