Junior Jack Kaiser Discusses Winter Olympics

Junior+Jack+Kaiser+Discusses+Winter+Olympics

As the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang come to a close, students at San Luis Obispo High School are reflecting on the largest cooperative winter themed athletics event in the world. Despite snow being a bit of an unknown on the central coast, many students still go out of their way to participate in winter recreation. Expressions sat down with junior and avid snowboarder Jack Kaiser to ask him about his feelings on the most recent olympics.

Expressions: What is your favorite event to watch in the Winter Olympics?

Junior Jack Kaiser: Cross Snowboarding, when they have four snowboarders all racing at the same time. I think the winter olympics could use more head to head races in snowboarding and skiing, they are very exciting! I also really enjoyed the curling.

Expressions: What event would you like to see more of in the Winter Olympics?

Kaiser: They show way too much figure skating, I think more short track and speed skating. There was a new short track relay event this year that was thrilling, I think they could expand on that. The more opportunity for crashes, the better.

Expressions: What was your favorite moment from the olympics?

Kaiser: When Red Gerard clutched the dub in slopestyle snowboarding.

Expressions: Did you learn anything from watching snowboarding at such a high level?

Kaiser: I learned that you can crack your head open on a halfpipe like Shaun White, if you’re not careful.

Expressions: Do you prefer Winter or Summer Olympics?

Kaiser: Summer, because I am a big runner so I enjoy the track and field. Snowboarding for me is only three months out of the year, but I run the rest of the year.
