Let’s March For Gender Equality

Let%E2%80%99s+March+for+Gender+Equality

Many San Luis Obispo High School students will be going to the Women’s March on Saturday, January 20. The free event will be held in the downtown Mission Plaza from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Its sole purpose is to advocate legislation and policies regarding human rights such as women’s rights, LGBTQ rights, racial inequality, worker’s rights, and more.

There will be handful of speakers in attendance: Elmy Bermejo, a women’s rights advocate who worked for former president Barack Obama; Maria Larios Horton, director of migrant education and immigrant rights advocate; and a few more.

“If I could choose anyone to speak at the rally, I would pick Bernie Sanders because he brings people together and has a whole lifetime of social justice policies behind him,” said senior Anna Betts who is planning on attending the march.

Gender inequality is something America has dealt with for generations.

“I think we still have a lot of work to do for women of color and transgender women, but I do think we’ve grown in acceptance,” said senior Liliana Turner who attended the march last year and is planning on attending the San Francisco march this year.

Come on downtown next Saturday if you believe women’s rights are humans rights.
