Open Mic Night At Kreuzberg Coffee Company

Open+Mic+Night+at+Kreuzberg+Coffee+Company

Open mic night at Kreuzberg Coffee Company is the perfect opportunity for San Luis Obispo High School students to enjoy watching, or participate in live performances. It occurs weekly on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. in the lounge room.

Hosted by a comedian with PG-13 humor, most acts consist of singers accompanied by their guitars. However, all art forms are encouraged, some of which include poetry and comedy. Each act performs three songs which totals about eight minutes. Sign-ups are beforehand on a designated sign-up sheet. The audience consists of both voluntary watchers and confused customers who feel trapped after they realize what’s going on.

“I like the environment because it seems really urban and unique and it’s not something that seems like it belongs in SLO,” said junior Cassidy Clark.

The regular performers kick off the night by filling up the room with their large personalities. One man in particular who calls himself Superman, writes original songs and wears a Superman costume with flip flops. His songs recount stories of his past encounters with the police and government through rough, raw vocals.

“The diversity of the performers is pretty good. Especially that one guy [Superman] I really liked what he was saying about how the government was trying to take his house,” said Clark.

In the spirit of Christmas, a duo sang renditions of “Baby, it’s Cold Outside”, “I’ll be Home for Christmas”, and “River”.

Supporting local performers while relaxing with a mug of hot apple cider is a great way to end one’s day and get into the holiday spirit.
