Winter Sports

Winter+Sports

As fall sports at San Luis Obispo High School are coming to an end, students will see more and more people with gear for their winter sports. From wrestling to girls water polo to soccer, the season has started. Expressions wanted to know more about these exciting activities, so we interviewed some of the winter athletes.

Expressions: Why did you decide to join the sport you’re in?

Freshman Wrestler Gage Fraysier: Because I have been in combat sports since I was little, and it’s really fun.

Freshman Girls Water Polo Player Brianna Johnson: Because I love swimming, and I wanted to try something new.

Expressions: Is this the first year you have played sports for the school?

Fraysier: No I wrestled last year at Laguna.

Johnson: Yes.

Expressions: How much time is usually spent practicing, and what do you have to do to practise?

Fraysier: A lot, like after school two hours everyday. Both teams warm up together by running and stretching, then we break up into varsity and J.V. (junior varsity) and do conditioning or technique and drills.

Johnson: Practices is 2:30 to 4:30.

Expressions: How do you think your team is gonna do this year?

Fraysier: That’s a hard question because when we compete it’s only you and another guy fighting.

Johnson: I think we’re gonna do amazing! We have so many strong swimmers, and from what I can see during drills, we have strong throwers and catchers.
