Taylor Swift: New Song, New Reputation

Singer-song writer Taylor Swift’s new single “Look What You Made Me Do” left multiple mixed feelings for students at San Luis Obispo High School. This surprising song that strays away from her typical sound, left many fans questioning what was going on with Swift and her music.

“I think it’s too edgy for her. I like the old Taylor Swift with her gushy love and break up songs,” said senior Sophie Dietrich. Although Swift has changed her style of music over the years, from country, to pop-country, to electropop, some of her fans are still supporting her.

“I think the song is pretty weird and it doesn’t really sound like her, but I do still support her as a singer,” said senior Anna Petersen.

Shortly before releasing her new song, Swift deleted everything off her Instagram and began posting short videos of snakes, along with pictures and videos that promoted her new album coming out. As one post on Instagram stated, “There will be no further explanation. There will just be reputation.”

Along with these posts, Swift straightforwardly stated in her song, “The old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now. Why? Because she’s dead,” which she uses as a metaphor to show that she’s changing her old image because of a perceived reputation that the public has given her.

“It makes me question how good her album is going to be,” said Petersen when asked what the song makes her think about the upcoming record “Reputation”. Her sixth album coming on November 10, has a whole new sound, which will leave the public questioning what they really made her do.
