Junior+Kylie+Haidet+Takes+Track

Moving from Oregon her freshman year was no easy task for junior Kylie Haidet. Now, after two years at San Luis Obispo High School, Haidet has become a standout member of the Tiger varsity track team. Expressions interviewed Haidet to find out more about her track and field experience at SLOHS.

Expressions: How long have you been doing track for?

Junior Kylie Haidet: I’ve been doing track since fifth grade.

Expressions: What are your major track accomplishments?

Haidet: I went to CIF freshman year.

Expressions: What are your main track events?

Haidet:  I do the 4×100, 200, 400, and the 4×400.

Expressions: What are your goals for the track and field season?

Haidet: I’m hoping to get a PR (personal record).

Expressions: How has playing on a varsity sport impacted your SLOHS experience?

Haidet: I got to know a lot more people and made a lot of friends.

Expressions: What other SLOHS activities do you participate in?

Haidet: I did soccer this year and my sophomore year.

Expressions: What was it like joining a varsity team your freshman year?

Haidet: It was intimidating because I just moved from Oregon and no one knew me, and no one talked to me. But it was a good experience to get to know the older kids because they always watch out for you.

Expressions: Do you wish to pursue track in college or as a professional career?

Haidet: I’m thinking about possibly running in college.

Expressions: What advice would you give someone hoping to join a varsity team?

Haidet: I would definitively say go for it because it makes school more fun.
