Poll Results: “How Does Social Media Affect Our Happiness?”

In the November issue of Expressions, we ran a story regarding social media usage and happiness that included a poll taken by San Luis Obispo High School students. Here are the results.

Which social media platforms do you use on a daily basis? Check all that apply. 

Facebook: 36 percent.

Snapchat: 80 percent.

Instagram: 75 percent.

Twitter: 17 percent.

YouTube: 64 percent.

Pinterest: 17 percent.

Other: 22 percent.

Do you believe that using social media affects your own happiness?

Yes – it decreases my happiness: 36 percent

Yes – it increases my happiness: 15 percent

No – it has no effect: 48 percent

How often do you think about your feelings changing due to social media usage?

Frequently: 9 percent.

Sometimes: 61 percent.

Never: 29 percent.
