The San Luis Obispo High School varsity baseball team has only lost one game so far, with a record of 9-1. The Pac-8 team is scheduled to play today, April 20, in Arroyo Grande and all students are encouraged to come support the team. Senior Connor Maydole plays catcher for the varsity team and Expressions had the chance to interview him on the team’s success.
Expressions: What has been the best team moment so far?
Senior Connor Maydole: Probably our team dinner on Super Bowl Sunday. We all went to a friend’s house and watched the game together.
Expressions: What team bonding does the team do to prepare?
Maydole: We do team dinners or pasta dinners at separate people’s houses the night before some of our games.
Expressions: What does a typical van ride consist of?
Maydole: We have two different vans and in one we play super loud music, it’s pretty crazy, and in the other everything is pretty laid back and relaxed.
Expressions: Why should people come to the games?
Maydole: The night games are the most fun and they are usually on Fridays. They are cool to watch and play because so many people come.
Expressions: Do you and/or any other members of the team plan to play baseball in college?
Maydole: Yes. I have agreed to play at Cal State Monterey Bay. Jeremy Jess is playing for Pitzer, and Matt Mundorf is playing for the US Merchant Marine Academy.
Expressions: What makes the boys varsity baseball team unique?
Maydole: We are like brothers and no one is ever left out.
Expressions: When and where can students come see you play at SLOHS next?
Maydole: Our next home game is on Friday against AG at 4:30.
