San Luis Obispo High School is no stranger to having students who play video games. Many games come and go as being popular, however one game in particular has stuck around for more than 20 years now, that game being the classic “Minecraft.”
Released by Mojang Studios, “Minecraft” was originally created by Markus Persson, also known as “Notch,” the first alpha build was released in 2009, with the game releasing in 2011, still receiving updates to this day.
“I’ve been playing ‘Minecraft’ since I was seven years old.” said freshman Ava Pires.
“Minecraft” was being steadily updated until the IP was bought by Microsoft in 2014, making the “Bedrock Edition” which is a version of “Minecraft” with extra features. The game steadily received updates adding new content and features.
“I think it’s been held up for so long because it’s very popular among young people and it’s a big thing in the gaming world,” said freshman Naisha Bhatnagar.
Each update is named, like the first update being named “The Adventure Update,” which added new items, and even dimensions, the “Caves and Cliffs Update,” which added completely reworked cave generation, adding new ores and blocks.
“I believe that the game will be around for a long time,” says freshman Noah Jones.
Overall, It seems Minecraft isn’t going anywhere, and will stay the classic it has always been. Try it out for old times sake, Tigers!
