Movie Review: “Brooklyn”

Movie+Review%3A+Brooklyn

The film “Brooklyn”, directed by John Crowley, with a screenplay written by Nick Hornby, was released on November 4.

Set in the 1950s, the story is centered around Ellis Lacey, a young Irish immigrant who travels to Brooklyn in search of a future, leaving behind her family and all she has ever known. In Brooklyn, she must adjust to life without her mother and sister, her new job, and strange customs, all of which are very foreign to her. Although she is extremely homesick at first, things start to look up when she meets Antonio “Tony” Fiorillo, a charming, young Italian man that just “really like[s] Irish girls.”

The stunning cinematography, vibrant costumes, touching and clever screenplay, and superb acting, all components of a great film, come together to tell a beautiful story, not just about love, but about learning how to truly find happiness. For anyone that enjoys romantic dramas and historical fiction, “Brooklyn” is the movie for you.
