One of the most popular games at San Luis Obispo High School and even the world, “Elden Ring” dropped a highly anticipated DLC, “Shadow of the Erdtree”. The DLC, launched in June, uncovers a previously hidden land, the Shadow Realm, for players to face new challenges and follow the steps of the Goddess, Miquella the Kind.
“I’m still in the process of making my ideal fantasy RPG, while “Elden Ring” is not quite it, it’s getting close,” says FromSoftware’s developer Hidetaka Miyazaki.
Many agree that “Shadow of the Erdtree” isn’t just a DLC but is closer to “Elden Ring 2” because of its size, quality, and changes from “Elden Ring.” The map is almost half the size of the original map from the base game. However, the map itself is much more maze-like than the almost completely open Lands in Between, outside of dungeons, and has a completely different feel from the lively and rich Lands in Between with a darker vibe as a land halfway between life and death.
“My first impression is that we practically got a small new game, and I absolutely loved it,” said senior Izayah Crespo Johnson.
The DLC also introduces a new leveling system for your character, instead of runes that drop from enemies like in the base game, you have to find two items Scadutree Fragments, which increase your damage and health, and the Revered Spirit Ash which increases your spirit ashes damage and health.
“I really enjoyed the DLC, from the final boss being a total surprise though by the fortieth death or so it wasn’t as amazing. Everything from the areas on the map to all the bosses were super cool and a great experience after the base game,” said senior Gavin Good.
Hopefully, Elden Ring 2 will be coming to FromSoft fans and SLOHS students can enjoy another beautiful world full of challenging bosses!

10/10 DLC. Except for Consort Radahn demolishing me. Also the final boss was garbage lorewise.
