As summer is coming to a close, a new thriller is coming to theaters to kick off the school year.
San Luis Obispo High School students should consider checking out the new movie “Blink Twice,” which comes out tomorrow, August 23.
“I probably go to the movies about once a month. I always look forward to new releases, especially thrillers” said junior Sadie Fischer.
“‘Blink Twice’ revolves around a cocktail waitress who gets invited to a dreamy holiday on a private island. As the “dream” vacation starts out, everyone’s having a great time in paradise.
However, as the days pass strange things start to happen, and main characters Frida and Jess start to lose their sense of reality. When Jess disappears, Frida is left questioning and tries to escape.
“I’m super excited to see [‘Blink Twice’]. I love thrillers and this one seems really unique,” said senior Regan James.
Behind the thrilling plot, the movie has a deeper meaning. Actor Zoe Kravitz, who has starred in action films like ‘Batman’ and ‘Divergent,’ wrote and directed the film based on the mistreatment of women in industries like Hollywood. Kravitz started writing in 2017 based on her experience in the industry.
“‘Blink Twice’ seems like a mix of Murder Mystery and Glass Onion, but on steroids. I mean I watched the trailer and it grabs your attention from the get-go, but it stays that way. There wasn’t a minute where I lost interest. I found out it’s about Zoe Kravitz ‘experience with the film industry, and that’s big. It’s almost like she’s trapped on this island and her memory is different. That’s a story that’s never been told: the truth behind the film industry. I dig it,” said 2024 SLOHS graduate Téa Fischer.
