San Luis Obispo High School students watch many different genres of movies and TV shows. Many people watch anime, and “Death Note” is a common anime that students have seen on many platforms.

“‘Death Note’ is one of my favorite animes filled to the brim with suspense and a complex plot that will lead you through a roller coaster of emotions. Although the plot is quite slow [from] the start, the complicated emotions expressed through your screen will slowly wrap you up and leave you wanting for more,” said sophomore Luca Petterson.

“Death Note” is a single-season anime released in October of 2006. It became popular and received one hundred percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

The main character Light Yagami narrates the storyline, as he finds the death note, a book that allows the user to kill people. Yagami uses his high intelligence to rid the world of criminals.

“I would describe Death Note as a battle of the minds, where Light Yagami and Lawliet battle using their brains to come out on top, each following their own form of justice,” said sophomore Drew Howes.

If students like mind bending plots with quick swerves that make them question what happens next “Death Note” may be the anime to watch.

“I would absolutely recommend this anime to anyone who likes mysterious, complex stories where good and evil is not so clear-cut… For people who enjoy anime, this show is a must, but even for those who don’t this is quite an interesting story,” said Howes.

Anime enjoyers will find themselves sitting on the edge of their couch in suspense, wondering what happens next. For those who haven’t watched the show, it’s available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Netflix, Peacock, Pluto TV, The Roku Channel, Tubi TV, and YouTube.

Check out “Death Note,” it’s worth the watch!
