Can Nathan Sykes Succeed As a Solo Artist?

Can+Nathan+Sykes+Succeed+As+a+Solo+Artist%3F

After the band The Wanted’s emotional breakup, the boys strayed apart and started their new solo roles in music. The most popular soloist so far, Nathan Sykes, sold out his first concert merely 10 minutes after tickets went on sale. He began his journey by reinventing his voice from his former pop band into more of a soulful, rhythm and blues sound. The question is: does he have what it takes to keep his independent career from crashing?

He started off his career with a safe new single, “Kiss Me Quick”, but you can tell, he has a lot of work to keep his career alive.

“His voice definitely has some potential, but personally I wasn’t impressed. It’s nothing I haven’t heard before which was kind of disappointing, because I really liked The Wanted as a band. I expected more from him,” said junior Audrey Ross.

There isn’t anything special about him that will support him as an individual performer.  He says he wants to go for more of a soulful sound, but unfortunately he hasn’t fully developed it yet. He has a nicely trained voice with a good range that has the potential, but is drowned out by the plain and obnoxious background music. If he really wants to achieve that soulful sound he talks about, he should focus more on his voice itself rather than the show. It makes Sykes appear as a weaker artist, which isn’t a good start to his new solo career.
