The San Luis Obispo High School’s spring golf season has come to an end. Overall the boys were confident in their abilities and had a great time. They might not have beat every team, but they still had high team scores and spirits.

“Our current record is 381 points as a team, individually – our champion and team captain, Cooper Groshart has gotten 71 points,” said junior Chris Camp.

A high school golf match usually consists of all of the schools going against each other and in SLOHS’s league there are eight teams.

The goal of golf is to get the ball in with the least amount of hits, so to win the players need to have the lowest score. This is different from other sports and can be confusing if someone is new to golf and unaware of the rules.

As of April 13, the SLOHS golf team was second in qualifiers, and Templeton’s team was in first, only two points ahead of them. SLOHS’s team was confident that they could pull through and get to first place.

They won the Mountain League title and moved on to the CIF Division One Sectional Tournament. Their season ended at the CIF Central Section Tournament, it took place in Fresno, CA and our SLOHS Golf team placed fifth. They may not have won CIF but they were very proud of the well deserved first place spot in Mountain League.

“I really like being on a team for golf because golf is an individual sport, so it’s cool to have a team atmosphere,” said senior Cooper Groshart.

Groshart’s inspiration for getting into golf was watching Tiger Woods as a kid. He started playing golf when he was around 5 and ended up switching over from basketball to golf as his winter sport. He has stayed in the sport for over ten years and has enough skill and team spirit to earn himself the title of varsity team captain.

The varsity golf’s coach, Wes Mckee, has a famous quote in their team: “Practice with Purpose, Play with Pride.”

So let’s all remember that in our daily lives and put forth our best effort all the time.
