The San Luis Obispo High School football team is preparing for their first home game at their new stadium tonight! The football field was under construction all last year so the home games were at Morro Bay. The team and the fans missed out on the excitement of games at home, so they’re getting hype for the Holt Stadium opening game.
Last week, the SLOHS football team traveled two hours away to Caruthers and the long bus ride proved well-worth. The junior varsity (JV) team shut out the Blue Raiders 21-0 and the varsity team won 27-7. Today, the tigers will play their rivals from Arroyo Grande at home.
“I’m excited to play Arroyo Grande because it’s a big rivalry. We’ve played them about one hundred times but we’ve only beaten them twice,” said varsity football player and sophomore Dane Adler.
Both the football team and the fans alike are very excited for tonight.
“It’s going to be so fun. I think it’ll be nice because we don’t have to drive far to go to our home games,” said sophomore Kashmir Flood.
The JV team has around seventy players and the varsity team has 42 players. There are no freshmen on the varsity team but players from all grades are on JV and varsity. There is even a girl on the JV team this year!
“I’m hyped for the rivalry game at the school I just joined. The football season so far has been good but I’m a little out of practice. The game last week was intense in the first half but we came back and beat them in the second half.” said varsity football player and sophomore Daniel Marquez.
Be sure to show up to the football game tonight, and wear black for blackout. JV plays at 4 p.m. and Varsity plays at 7 p.m.
