  San Luis Obispo High School students who grew up attending schools in San Luis Coastal Unified District may remember Tiger Olympics during fifth and sixth grade. Tiger Olympics has been canceled the last few years due to COVID-19, unfortunately students missed two years. Now, it’s back and running. Today, SLOHS got to see the students who will someday attend the school. Expressions interviewed some future tigers. 

Expressions: What school do you attend?

Sixth Grader Benny: Hawthorne.

Sixth Grader Cassia: Sinsheimer.

Sixth Grader Jet: Bishop’s Peak.

Sixth Grader Faye: Sinsheimer.

Sixth Grader Caden: Teach Elementary.

Expressions: What was your favorite part of today?

Benny: Well I feel like the tug of war was really fun. I also liked doing the cooking thing.

Cassia: Volleyball.

Jet: Basketball. We got third place. 

Faye: Soccer! We are about to do it right now.

Caden: Probably petting the bunnies.

Expressions: If anything, what was your least favorite part of today?

Benny: We lost tug of war. We lost miserably.

Jet: That we only got third place.

  Expressions also interviewed current students at SLOHS to ask what they remember about tiger Olympics.

Expressions: What school did you attend?

Sophomore Alexis Palmayesa: Hawthorn.

Senior Natayla Beck: C. L. Smith Elementary school.

Expressions: What was your favorite part about Tiger Olympics?

Palmayesa: I think my favorite part is when we were touring around the school and showing us different classes. 

Beck: My favorite part of tiger olympics was seeing the American Sign language class and hanging out with Mrs. Nusbaum. 

Expressions: Did you participate in any sports or activities during the event?

Palmayesa: I don’t think I did. 

Beck: I think that it’s very exciting for the students to be able to come for the Olympics because it’s fun for them to come to the high school and see the school. 

Expressions: Students have not participated in tiger olympics the last two years. How do you feel about Tiger Olympics resuming?

Palmayesa: I’m pretty happy that tiger olympics are resuming. I remember it being really fun and I’m glad that students will experience it again. 

Beck: I’m really excited for them. It is super fun. 

  Tiger Olympics is so important to introduce future students to the experiences that they will face in high school. It is a great opportunity for so many students to learn about theater, sports, FFA, and the many other courses SLOHS offers.
