Global pandemic. Online and in person classes. Virtual Friday learning. Sports practices. Spring break is fast approaching for San Luis Obispo High School students and staff, who are ready for this week off of typical responsibilities. SLOHS Expressions set out to see what these students plan on doing their spring vacation, while still being in a pandemic.
Expressions: What are you doing over spring break?
Freshman Zev Slade: For spring break I am going to Washington D.C. to visit my cousins. It is going to be affected by corona because we wouldn’t be able to do as many fun activities and we would always have to wear masks.
Freshman Isabella Francis: For spring break I plan on hanging out with friends a lot, but because of covid it makes it harder to do fun things with friends. When I’m not hanging out with friends during break, I will be playing video games with my friends.
Freshman Jacob Maire: Over spring break my family and I are going to Tahoe to ski and snowboard. We are staying at a hotel that will no longer serve breakfast in the morning due to Covid. That is not all, we have to wear a mask while snowboarding and on the lifts. Covid does affect our trip to the mountains but we will still have fun with the new rules.
Freshman Rebecca Gee: During spring break, I would usually travel to see relatives, but because of COVID, my plans have changed. This spring break, I will be staying home since my Dad’s kidneys are failing, causing him to be immuno-compromised. Although I’m disappointed that I can’t visit with my extended family, I’m glad I’m keeping my Dad safe.
Junior Ava Walsh: For spring break, me and my parents are going on a road trip through California to visit different college campuses. It’s gonna be a few days, and we’ll eventually get to the Oregon border. I’m not looking forward to being stuck in the car, and I’m worried that my special plants might die back at home.
Whether you are staying home for spring break, or going out of town, remember to follow CDC protocoles to help keep our community and your loved ones safe.
