On November 24, President Donald Trump conducted the annual White House Thanksgiving turkey pardon. As the holidays descend upon San Luis Obispo students, it is important to look at the fun traditions that our community and country love.
Two turkeys, Corn and Cob, were eligible to be saved from slaughter this year.
A White House Twitter poll picked Corn to be spared from otherwise-inevitable doom.
According to sources, Trump, who seems to really enjoy turkey pardons, stayed mostly nonpolitical during the event, even though it was one of his first appearances since he started trying to undermine the election he lost.
This 73 year-old tradition of the Presidency displaying its absolute power over life and death was started by the national turkey lobby and is a time for presidents to tell awful jokes, such as Bill Clinton’s “That’s one less turkey in Washington.”
Trump delivered on this and then finalized the executive action by raising his omnipotent hand over the confused-looking turkey, stating: “Corn, I hereby grant you a full pardon. Thank you, Corn. What a bird.”
