‘Tis the season for season for sitting by the fire, watching holiday movies, baking cookies, and of course, listening to holiday music. San Luis Obispo High School students are preparing for winter by participating in holiday festivities. Expressions talked to many people to see how they spend their December.
Expressions: What are some of your traditions for the upcoming holidays?
Sophomore Faith Frederick: On Christmas Eve, we watch “Twas the Night Before Christmas”, we get our tree two days after Thanksgiving, we deck our house out with tons of lights.
Junior Matthew Calandro: I make Christmas cookies with my dad.
Junior Daisy Hummell: My family makes homemade cinnamon rolls and cream cheese frosting every Christmas morning and it’s so fun.
Sophomore Tate Isaacs: We have “Elf on the Shelf” every year.
Junior Enrique Ajanel: We get our Christmas tree two weeks before Christmas.
Expressions: What is one movie that you always watch around this time?
Frederick: “Elf.”
Calandro: “Die Hard.”
Hummell: “Elf.”
Isaacs: “The Polar Express.”
Ajanel: “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.”
Expressions: Who is your favorite holiday artist and what is your favorite song?
Frederick: Frank Sinatra and “Jingle Bells” by him.
Calandro: “Christmas in Hollis” by Run DMC.
Hummell: “Last Christmas” by Taylor Swift.
Isaacs: I don’t like Christmas music to be honest.
Ajanel: “All I Want For Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey.
Expressions: In your opinion, when is the appropriate time to start listening to festive music?
Frederick: December 1.
Calandro: Right after Thanksgiving dinner.
Hummell: Right after Thanksgiving.
Isaacs: Two weeks before Christmas.
Ajanel: 6pm.
Expressions: What is your favorite kind of holiday dessert?
Frederick: The limited edition ready to bake Pillsbury Christmas cookies.
Calandro: Any kind of Christmas cookies.
Hummell: Seven layer bars or lemon bars.
Isaacs: Peppermint bark.
Ajanel: Pumpkin pie.
