Generation Z, the people between the ages of three and 23, includes every student at San Luis Obispo High School. This generation is often seen as different, as in most are addicted to their phones and try to act older than they are, but one of the main things Gen Z is known for is doing crazy and dangerous internet challenges.
“I feel like they’re pretty silly things that don’t have much of a point. But if people enjoy doing them and don’t get hurt, then I don’t see the problem,” said freshman Jadyn Sennett.
This generation has attempted the most dangerous challenges. Some of the challenges that went viral include the “In my feelings” challenge, where if the song “In my feelings” plays while you are in a moving car you jump out of it and start dancing. There’s also the Tide Pod challenge where people eat Tide Pods, a detergent that can kill you. This challenge has resulted in numerous deaths. The fact that people die doing these challenges and yet more and more people do them is disappointing.
“‘The Tide Pod’ and ‘In my feelings’ challenges are stupid, I don’t get why people would even think that putting Tide Pods in your mouth is a good idea. The same thing with the In my feelings challenge, why would you jump out of a moving car for a song?” said freshman Yerania Patricio.
There are way more challenges than the two used for an example, and each challenge gets even worse in a variety of ways. Yet people still attempt these challenges and most are from the Gen Z generation. These things are being taken too far, especially if they started off as a simple joke. These kinds of trends on social media are putting these young people in serious danger. Once these challenges threaten safety, there’s no question it should be stopped, yet it usually isn’t and the Gen Z’s keep inventing more.
