San Luis Obispo High School Orientation day is one of the days to get incoming students of all grades excited and ready for the new year. With school starting on August 20 and Orientation day coming up on the 13, school can be intimidating to a majority of students.
“Link Crew has great opportunities such as team building, and learning new names.” said senior Thomas Prater. “Link Crew does an activity where we get into a circle with a group of students having to say names, starting by saying your own name, then the person beside you would say their name and so on, until you have to say everyone’s name in the circle.”
“Each Link Crew member has their own group of incoming freshman. We try to do positive stuff with our groups, show them the positive stuff we have to offer here at San Luis Obispo High School. Socially, it helps if we put them with friends while we do activities. It makes students more comfortable and less nervous.” said senior Kate Mahoney
When asked what changes he would make to Orientation day, Prater said, “I would probably focus less on activities and more on showing them the school, such as the classes and what we have to offer here at San Luis Obispo High School.”
Mahoney offered different insight on what changes she would make to improve Orientation day. “I would definitely try and have more events throughout the year, I feel like Link crew is like a beginning of the year type of thing. It would be better if we met up with our group throughout the year more than just the beginning.”
